National Service Scheme

Vision:

The vision is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for the social uplift of the down-trodden masses of our nation as a movement.

Mission:

The National Service Scheme has been functioning with the motto “NOT ME BUT YOU” in view of making the youth inspired in service of the people and hence NSS Aims Education through Community Service and Community Service through Education.

Broad Objectives:
  • Understand the community in which they work.
  • Understand themselves in relation to their community.
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
  • Develop among them a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.
  • Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters
  • Practice national integration and social harmony.

An important component of Dr. Ambedkar College of Social Work, Wardha is the National Service Scheme. The central government appointed Dr. Radhakrishna Committee, Dr. Chintamanrao Deshmukh Committee, Dr. Daulat Singh Kothari etc. thought that social service should also be given priority in education system and education process. For this, students should choose between National Service Scheme and National Cadet Corps. Dr. Ambedkar College of Social Work, Wardha was established in 1997 and since then the National Service scheme Department has been functioning in the college. For the outstanding performance of this department during the academic year 2006-07, the college received the Outstanding National Service Scheme award and also the program officer of the department, Professor Mr. Mohnish Sawai, was awarded the State Level Excellent Program Officer Award by the Governor of Maharashtra, honorable Prabhatai Rao. Dr. Deepak Magarde is working as National Service Scheme Program Officer from session 2013-14. So far, he has successfully organized various programs in the department.

The goal of N.S.S. is education through Community Service. The purpose is to enrich the student’s personality & deepen his understanding of the social environment in which he lives. It should help students to develop an awareness and knowledge of social reality to have concern for the wealth being of the community to undertake appropriate activities design to tackle social problems to promote welfare.
